PD003-Fire Protection

To satisfy building regulations, a series of additional items may be required to fire protect the underside of the mezzanine floor. These steps are needed to ensure that in the event of a fire, the steel structure of the mezzanine is adequately protected for one hour after the start of a fire. This is to allow enough time for the area to be evacuated and to comply with building regulations.

These products may include:

  • Suspended Ceiling
  • Column Casings
  • Smoke Detection
  • Fascia Panels

Does our mezzanine floor need to be fire protected?

There are a number of questions that need to be answered to determine whether a mezzanine requires fire protection. If a mezzanine is to be used for storage purposes then it may not need fire protection unless it occupies more than 50% of the room it is to be sited in or if the mezzanine is in excess of 20 metres in length.

A mezzanine that is to be used for office accommodation invariably will need fire protection.
